Well...here are results of my testing:
I downloaded your file and converted it. Insted of 1,4Gb is now 700 mb. Picture quality is the same as original, but you were right about moving slide responce. It took about 2-3 seconds before movie start playing. Then i start playing with avidemux settings.
Here's what i do:
If you go to Video Output ---> Configure, you will see tabs on the top (General, Advanced RC, Motion, Partition, Frame....etc.
Go to "Frame" tab and uncheck CABAC, then scrol down and set GOP Size Minimum to 1 and Maximum to 12. I did so and slide response was perfect.
But remember....avidemux won't remember these settings. It will revert to factory settings at the next startup and you will have manually to set above mentioned frame settings again.

WOW!!!! You are really competent!!!
Actually the size of the file I uploaded was 856,6 Mbs and not 1.4 GB.
I am trying again with Avidemux with your new settings. Btw, the best video player for Mac for me is MPV, it is the only one that lets you scroll accross files without losing frames, except for some companies like TCW where the scrolling loses many many frames. Infact I spent a lot of time in converting all these files into mp4 using iskysoft video converter and with the results there were no problems. I will let you know the result tomorrow (going to bed right now).
A million thanks again for your precious help!! I would have never got there myself

Apologies, you were probably referring to MWZ Adriana vs Tommy that is actually 1.4 GBs. I was talking about CRF 80 that I uploaded later and that was the result of Avidemux compression from 6.4 Gb to 856 Mb using the settings that you had previously recommended.
 Thanks again!!!
 Best

I found out what when wrong with my latest posted video CRV 80 that had no sound. I used an AI module for interlaced videos and these modules can corrupt the sound (while don't they put an explicit warning....), hence (I think) the problem.
Now I am going to use a different AI module and then if I manage to have a file with sound I will upload it.
Voayer, the settings you recommended work magic!!! I got a file 50% smaller and there is no problem with the scrolling!!! A billion thanks!!
But I have to work on it again because of the sound problem.

There is one trick with the audio. With avidemux you can extact sound from the original video and inport it into enhanced video. This procedure is a bit more demanding, because sometimes audio-video synchronisation is needed. But is not a rocket science or brain surgery. Practice.

Ok Voayer, thanks to your precious help I solved the problem. This is what I discovered: if I use an AI module for interlaced videos, the sound disappears with Topaz 2.6.4. but it works with Topaz 3.0.4 (they must have fixed it in the updated version).
The file that came out was gargantuan, 9.56 Gb, but I resized it with Avidemux to 1.92 Gb, and the quality is perfect and the scrolling works perfectly too!!
I would have never, ever got there without your help!!!
So there is the new link for CFV 80 with sound in my HQ mixed section.

Happy new year everybody!!!
I ask everyone but especially Voayer (you are a genius into this!!): I have lots of old video that I converted from VHS into mpg files. The size is big (around 4gb each) and I would like to use Topaz to upscale some of them. If I use the deinterace option and I upscale to 1920x1080 the result seems to be fantastic BUT the size of the file is HUGE (just 3 minutes from a 90 minutes video generated a 3 gb file so in order to upscale the whole video I would have a 90 gb file!!).
I am trying with a conversion into mp4 with avidemux but the file generated seems to be big too.
Can anybody help please? Voayer, any of your precious suggestions? (BTW, if you do not close Avidemux and process a new files the settings are not cancelled).
 Many thanks in advance!!!

Huh!! 1GB per minute? That's a lot. Look, guess you will have to do something with your Topaz and learn how to set target bitrate, but i can't help you, because my OS doesn't allow me to instal Topaz. Maybe you should use 1280x720 resolution, but be careful, because older videos are in 4/3 aspect ratio and 1920x1080 (or 1280x720)are in 16/9.
Btw...avidemux also have deinterlace filter that works good with mpeg, but in my experiences not so good with mp4 files.
Just one tip:
This dude http://www.squeezequeens.com/index.php?action=profile;u=78988 start all this Topaz things here. Maybe you should PM him and ask for the advice.

The most recent version of Topaz 3.0.11 creates even bigger files, therefore I tend to use the older Topaz 2.6.4. when I can. The deinterlacing creates ENORMOUS files, probably because it doubles the fps but it makes a big difference especially in older files from HS tapes.Yes, infact for video in 4:3 I use the option to upscale 200% whereas for 16:9 I upscale to 1920 or 1280. Why doesn't your OS let you install Topaz? You have Mac Studio right? So you should have the latest OS. Thanks always for your precious help, especially with Avidemux!!

Because Topaz requires windows 10 or higher. I am still on windows 7 and i'm not planning to buy new comp. with powerfull graphic cart to run Topaz.
Try to "bribe" Catagora with some good videos to help you out.
Or...here are two forums, specialized for video editing.

Guys there are pretty smart, maybe they will help you. Try to register there and ask the question.

Guess you have problems with Topaz how to set target bitrate.

Many thanks for all your support!! I looked around and everybody has the same problem, files generated by Topaz (especially the 3 version) are HUGE. One of my conversion was more that 50GB!! But Avidemux with your settings solves everything because it reduces the size even up to 90%. So a dual passage with Topaz and then Avidemux is unavoidable.I thought you had Mac Studio, you say you are still on win7. I would upgrade at least to win10 for security issues sincex win7 is not supported anymore. I know what you mean with graphic card....to get a PC ready for Topaz you have so invest some good money, but the results I get with a basic Mac Mini, 8GB ram 256 HD are really good. Have you seen my latest post on FF HQ? Not bad considering it comes from a VHS tape at least 25 years old!! You can get a second hand Macmini with few hundreds.

Might as well split and move the UPSCALING FILES WITH AI discussion to the open board so that you can chat in specialised topic there, along with that guy without HQ access, no?  ;)

I'm late to this thread. Big thanks to magicstar for putting me on to this AI video enhancement thing. Thanks too to voayer for the tips on resizing huge Topaz files.

I've been playing around with Topaz and have just posted one of the results, an enhanced version of an old video from ScissorPlanet:
http://www.squeezequeens.com/index.php?topic=3571.msg98888;topicseen#msg98888

I'm using Topaz v3.0.7. It works fine on a Windows desktop with an i7 processor and a decent graphics card. I've mostly been using Avidemux to resize the huge Topaz outputs, following the settings recommended by voayer. But sometimes Avidemuz crashes on me. I'm a total noobie, but I think this might have something to do with corrupted time indexing on old .wmv and .rm files. As an alternative, I've been using Handbrake, with no problems.

Once again, thanks magicstar!

It was pointed out to me there was no audio on the ScissorPlanet video I originally uploaded. (magicstar said he also had problems with the audio when he first started using Topaz.) I've now uploaded a version with audio.

I used a work-around along the lines hinted at by voayer. Using Filmora, I ripped the audio track off the original .wmv file, then attached it to the Topaz-ed file. I can't guarantee the audio is fully synced with the video.  The resulting file was pretty big, so I passed it through Avidemux. I don't know if all this processing has lowered the video quality.
