I respect Sarah. Her life story says a lot about her fortitude and ability to overcome setbacks which would have demotivated other competitors.

Re. Ronda comments: what she says is true. However, that won't stop Ronda steamrolling any future opponents that I can see on the horizon. I'll make a prediction and you can all flame me if I'm proven wrong......whenever Rousey vs McMann happens - Stewie predicts..........in the  FIRST ROUND:

Ronda by armbar

I wouldn't have complained if the decision went to Baszler for sure. Great fight though. It's the sort of fight where nobody loses and it would have won fight of the night on a heck of a lot of cards.

I haven't seen a lot of McMann, but I was impressed with her game standing up and slightly less impressed with her ground game. I kind of expected her to be a lot more tight and smothering on top, but saying that Baszler is no joke. McMann isn't ready for Rousey, I'd really like to see her get a couple more fights first.

I am interested to see how she approaches it when the fight does happen. Conventional wisdom is going to be that she tries to use her wrestling to stay on her feet, but I'd really like to see what happens if someone puts Rousey on her back. She's a Judo fighter first which naturally means she's far more potent on top than she would be off her back - Guard isn't a position you see in Judo matches after all. We might see it if Carmouche gets the fight she wants (if she can get her down of course, her wrestling isn't in the same league as McMann).

Right, but both those armbars started from Ronda's takedowns with her in top position - it's the correct defense to try to stack an armbar, so people ending up on their knees trying to defend is natural.

-edit -

Ronda trains with Cesar Gracie and the Diaz boys so likely she's developing a pretty good guard game too, but that doesn't change the fact that she's a Judo fighter first and Judo focuses on fighting from top position on the ground.

Joking apart, I think you also have to take into consideration the level of competition. Your average WMMA competitor, even up to blackbelt standard is going to be cattle-fodder for an Olympian newaza-specialist.

Ronda could armbar these chicks off a headstand.

No, not even against King Kong............

"Kong grabs Ronda in his giant hand, with the intention of crushing her in his patented "Fay Wray - she can't get away!", submission hold.......however, Ronda grabs his middle-finger, slaps her legs around it, feet in the centre of his hand and yanks it back in a nasty Oversized-Gorilla, Knuckle-Popper.......... ::)    :lmao:    <2up>

an Olympian newaza-specialist.

I feel the need to point out that this thing doesn't exist. The rules of tournament Judo don't allow you to 'specialize' in Newaza. You can't even enter Newaza unless you're better than your opponent standing up because the person who secures the throw is the one who gets to decide whether Newaza happens or not.

Obviously some practice it more than others, but you can't be a specialist at it and have success because Judo rules are stupid.

That said, I do tend to agree that there probably isn't anyone in WMMA yet who can deal with Ronda. That'll change though.

I understand what you're saying, but when I said "Newaza-Specialist" I didn't mean it in a "Competition-Judo" context. I was referring to the fact that Ronda had extensively developed her ground-based Judo, to be superior to that of 99.9% of Judokas on the planet, thanks to her mother's obsession with those techniques.

Substitute "Newaza-specialist" for "Submission-specialist" or "Armbar-specialist" and maybe its more appropriate, given Ronda's current MMA status.

l'chaim, Stewart!

Ronda Rousey Can Beat Some Male MMA Fighters according to mma fighter Roman Mitichyan

go to the 1:00 mark for talk about RR, skip to 2:35 for his opinion of her in a mixed mma match (sucks that the interview clip ends abruptly)

Bryan Caraway's lawyers probably got an injunction, to cut the clip at that particular point....<2up>

Great find, Crush......:k3:
